I think there’s only 2,000 actual people on here, and half of them work directly for Instagram. When any account gets above 4,000 “followers”, the average likes per post goes from an average of 10 or possibly up to 30 percent of the number of followers to between 2 and 7 percent. Pick any public account over 5000 followers and check the average number of likes from their last ten posts. I once posted something that received as many “likes” as I had followers - but most of the likes came from accounts that didn’t follow mine. The other funny thing is when lots of followers jump on...without “liking” anything. Or some accounts “like” 25 posts...without following. Some sort of virtual catcalling I guess. I use this platform as a means of advertisement and also for gathering wisdom from some excellent carpenters and craftspeople. I enjoy the clips from my family and friends but most of them text me special stuff anyways. How does the 2-7% thing happen? Human nature? Technology? Human nature is a splendid veil for profitable technology to hide behind. And vice versa. We all work for Instagram. Not sure who runs the house but the house always wins. The most popular IG post of all time proves that point. Here’s an after and before (if you put the “before” pic first nobody will like it) of some work I actually did. I can’t take credit for the built-in or the railings. Maybe we can get 150 “likes” this time.
